Ex-Premier League star names one Arsenal spot that may be their problem

Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann has highlighted a potential issue for Arsenal following their recent Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Under Mikel Arteta’s guidance, Arsenal has built a competitive squad, and they deserve praise for reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League in their return to the competition this season.

Despite their impressive form over the past two seasons, it appears that Arsenal may not yet be fully equipped to contend for major trophies.

While they have come close to securing both Premier League and Champions League titles this season, they have ultimately fallen short.

Nevertheless, the Gunners have shown improvement and greater experience compared to previous campaigns.

However, there is a concern that Arsenal may end the season empty-handed, which would be disappointing for the club and its supporters.

Hamann has analysed Arsenal’s squad and said, as quoted by Talk Sport:

‘You have to question if this team, and I know it is a very young team, is capable of winning a big title.

‘I think they’ve got a very good defence, but I’m not sure about the keeper. I don’t think you win a big title with a goalkeeper who doesn’t fill me with confidence.

‘It was his mistake coming 40 yards off his line in the first leg, it changed the whole tie. Then obviously they brought Rice and Havertz in, I don’t think they’ve improved from last season.’

Just Arsenal Opinion

We have a strong team. They lack some experience, but this Arsenal team is punching above its weight and deserves credit.

ADMIN COMMENT

So here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….

You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans. Everyone is allowed to hold their own opinions even if you disagree with them. It COSTS NOTHING TO BE POLITE TO OTHER ARSENAL FANS.

  1. Raya is a complete liability under pressure ,he’s been saved that responsibility all season because how good our defence as been but our last two games have shown what he’s made of .
Wouldn’t surprise me if Arteta gets another new keeper in for next season ,seems to have soft spot for changing them yearly

    1. The last two games do not suggest Raya is a liability in the way you are implying. He was in an awkward position when GM received the ball. However, that was not enough of a reason for GM to make the dangerous pass that led to the turnover and the goal. For the penalty, Raya was caught out by Kane’s change in technique which was unfortunate. The winning goal was due to poor marking.
Certainly not a great night for Raya but to label him a liability is disingenuous.

  2. Arteta sold the best keeper, we had had for a good few years and has wasted a small fortune trying to rectify the huge mistake. And hasn’t.

    1. I wouldn’t say “small”.
We gave up on Kudus and let Westham for the same price, just to sign a goalkeeper that’s even more shakey than Ramsdale.
Not to mention the money is coming out of next summer’s budget, so we’ve already made our first summer signing and it’s a shakey goalkeeper that has made the squad worse…

  3. On hindsight, I also felt Ramsdale should have been between the sticks against BM in both legs. Anyway, he is mostly leaving in the summer and hopefully, we sign a competent GK.

    1. Not sure why the focus on Raya. The situation with GM would not have resulted in a goal if the defenders had kept their heads.
Neuer conceded 2 goals in this tie. I have also seen him getting caught out before when advancing too far forwards and being more at fault than Raya. Yet he has regularly been considered one of the best GKs in the world.

      1. Neuer did not cost $35 million,
Also he only came back from injury a few weeks ago after being out with a horrific injury for a year at the age of 38.
And he looked like the best keeper in the world in his first two matches back from injury.

Raya is not even in the same league as Neuer, despite being 10 years younger. He has shown nothing to justify the pricetag.

Yes pricetag is not his fault, so Edu and Arteta should be held accountable.

Brice Samba would have costed half what Raya did and was nominated for Ballon d’or
